ALBERT TORCASO'S Thoughts on the Seven Year Anniversary of 9-11-2001
It has been Seven Years since the attack of our brothers and sisters, fathers, mothers, nieces, nephews and our American family and I remember them as we should remember them. Some were heroes who took their last breaths to save or attempt to save others some succeeded and others were not able to succeed, but all were heroes for giving of themselves. Now, Seven years have passed, but many of us watch the TV shows that attempt to honor them or we hear politicians speak of them as heroes. However, do we really remember them? Many of these politicians who speak of them also put up roadblocks to help the victims families survive financially and emotionally. We also remain in a war which was said to be started to defend our nation and to seek justice for these families and for America, but is it justice for more Americans to die in a war that was not started for the right reasons? And how does a war bring justice to the victims their families or our nation? Real justice would be to make sure all Americans can be safer from the evil beings that attacked our families. Real security, but not political tricks and not by claiming to protect our nation while suppressing Americans’ civil rights with laws such as The Real ID Act, The MCA, The Patriot Acts or the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Amendments Of 2008. Those laws took away rights guaranteed in our Constitution and took away parts of the First and Fourth Amendments.
The point here is not to seek an audience for my points of view on freedom, but is to say that the worst part of what happened on 9-11-2001 is that after that fateful day our own government turned her back on her peoples’ freedom and did what those who would harm us wanted. It is our government that has put up restrictions on freedom and made us less free in the name of security, but in so doing they have betrayed all who died on that day and betrayed all of us for if we are to change laws that gave us the freedoms we enjoyed for two hundred and Twenty Five years then they have allowed those evil beings to scare and change a nation.
We must honor all of the souls who were lost on
9-11-2001 and honor every soldier who has fought and died in the cause of freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq since that day in 2001. We must commit ourselves to repeal laws that strike down our freedom. We must find a way to provide security to our people, but enforce the rights given to all Americans in the Bill Of Rights and in the United States Constitution.
This is how we honor our family who died in New York, DC, and in a field in PA. We also can honor them by having educational funding for every child of a victim of that day. We honor them by providing their needs and by honoring all American veterans who have fought for and protected our freedom. Yes, Seven years have passed but, everyday we live in a free and fair nation we honor their souls their memories.
Rest in Paradise, my departed family, who were taken from us on 9-11-2001. I will remember you and I will honor you here on earth until I meet you in paradise one day.
